I launched copingwithgrief.in in loving memory of my husband Rajive Chandra who passed away from Covid complications on May 1, 2021, at the age of 65. Rajive had been suffering from Parkinson’s Disease for almost 10 years.
As Rajive’s caregiver, I got a first-hand glimpse of the challenges faced by a Parkinson’s patient and how a debilitating and degenerative disease could diminish a loved one.
My grief was related not only to his sudden, unexpected and untimely passing, but also to all those years that he struggled with Parkinson’s Disease.
My personal experience with the loss of a loved one and the overwhelming grief I felt in the days, weeks and months following Rajive’s passing motivated me to establish copingwithgrief.in to help others facing a similar situation.
Rajive was a brilliant student and his keen intellect was apparent early on in his years at St Columba’s school in Delhi, where he finished in the First Ten of his 1972 ISC batch. He was also among the National Scholarship Winners of that year.
After St Columba’s, Rajive studied Chemical Engineering at IIT Bombay and then went on to do his MBA at the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta. During his successful corporate career spanning over 30 years in India, the Middle East and Singapore, Rajive held senior leadership positions in leading corporations such as GlaxoSmithkline, Motorola, Dell, and TomTom.
Rajive was a voracious reader and had a special passion and talent for writing. While he was at IIT Bombay, he was the Editor of the IIT monthly newspaper ‘Technik’ for 3 years, from 1975-78. He also won an All India Inter College Essay competition in 1976.
Rajive’s writing reflected his vast knowledge of literature, global affairs, sports and music. In later years, Rajive took to writing a blog in which he creatively wove together stanzas from poetry and lyrics from his favourite 1970s/80s rock songs to convey his unique world view.
Rajive touched countless lives in his 65 years and will be forever missed by his family and friends.
